Rights & Permissions

All University of Calgary Press publications are protected by copyright. Requests for rights and permissions are handled by the University of Calgary Copyright Office. Requests for distribution, special use, and reprints are handled by the University of Calgary Press.

Permissions

Permissions questions relating to University of Calgary Press publications may be directed to Rowena Wake, Copyright Officer, University of Calgary.

These queries may include requests to quote from University of Calgary Press publications in another work, to excerpt from our publications on a website or in a print publication, and more.

Professors and instructors who wish to assign chapters from UCalgary Press books as part of their course materials may not need to request permission if the book is part of our Open Access publication program. Please see the details of our Open Access licence below.

Distribution and Special Use

Questions relating to distribution, special use, including special orders and special editions, and reprints may be directed to the University of Calgary Press

This may include questions requesting permission to sell copies of UCalgary books in a specific country or territory, permission to sell digital copies of UCalgary Press books, questions regarding bulk orders, course orders, school editions, and more.

Open Access

Many of our books are available Open Access under a Creative Commons BY-NC-ND 4.0 license. This license permits the following:

You (the user) are free:

  • to Share — to copy, distribute and transmit the work

Under the following conditions:

  • Attribution. You must attribute the work in the manner specified by the author or licensor (but not in any way that suggests that they endorse you or your use of the work).
    *All attribution should consist of a citation, or must at least, include the original author’s name, title of publication, publisher, and date.
  • Noncommercial. You may not use this work for commercial purposes.
  • No Derivative Works. You may not alter, transform, or build upon this work.
